wild betty indian pale ale
For this project, I was required to design a bottle label for an Indian Pale Ale named Wild Betty. The brand itself was named Billy’s Brew and originated in Noosa, Queensland Australia.
I was aiming for this design to be loud and playful, which ties in well with Noosa’s beach culture. It might attract those looking for a fun and adventurous beer, especially if they have a connection to beach life or love the ocean. The mermaid's playful and confident depiction appeals to the male gaze through its boldness and allure, while also resonating with female audiences by embodying a sense of empowerment and freedom.
I think that the 'Wild Betty' design ties in more closely with the Billy's Brew brand, as it has a closer connection in terms of imagery to Noosa and the origin of the brand. Additionally, I think that the depiction of 'Betty' as a mermaid with a retro touch gives the brand more personality. This can help create a strong brand identity that customers can connect with.
The beachy, adventurous vibe of the design could potentially attract consumers who enjoy beach activities, surfing, and coastal living, and can create a very strong niche for the brand. Finally, I think the bright colours and the illustration of the mermaid are visually appealing and can draw attention on the shelf, making it stand out among other beer brands.
